ADULT FITNESS EDUCATION:

Adult Fitness Education is designed to teach key components of health and fitness which will include information on cardiovascular training, strength training, flexibility training and general nutrition.

 

Also, the importance of aerobic activity and proper technique in strength and flexibility training will be explained. A cardio orientation will be given to provide instruction and proper use of our specific cardio equipment.

 

We hope to encourage lifelong habits for personal optimal health, happiness and longevity.

 

Please sign up at the Welcome Center for one of the training sessions listed. Each session lasts approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours.


ATTENTION!     Volunteers always needed:

The YMCA Selective Swim Program for special needs children is in need of volunteers, especially  male volunteers to assist the male children through the locker room dressing and undressing; and showers before and after the pool and in-pool swim training . It is expected that more than 80 children will be in the program this year and more volunteers are needed! Contact the Y at 377-3741 to apply.


Noon Basketball and Policies
Every Monday-Friday from 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m., the gym floor is reserved for adult members, ages 17 and older, to participate in full-court 5-on-5 or half-court 4-on-4 basketball games.

At the YMCA we can expect everyone playing will follow the rules of the game of basketball, while adhering to the core values of Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Caring

Day fee visitors are not allowed to use the basketball court during these hours.  Teens, 16 years old and older will be allowed to play only during holiday and summer breaks.

The goal of Kitsap Family YMCA fitness class program is to provide safe, effective exercise routines for individuals of every fitness level and assist you in reaching your fitness goals.
For those with any physical condition that might affect them during a exercise workout, we encourage sharing the info with the instructor/staff to offer a safe and effective workout based on personal needs and goals. All class formats include a warm-up, main segment, cool down and stretching.  
(L) = Level: 1=beginner fitness, low intensity, easy to follow; 2=moderate fitness, moderate intensity and/or complexity; 3=advanced fitness, challenging with high intensity options.

 

Aikido:  (45 min)

Aikido means "Way of Harmony" and it is a martial art that emphasizes non-resistance and evasion. It's a technique-based rather than strength-based, making it an ideal means of self defense for women and the elderly. Aikido not intended to harm anyone, but instead to prevent them from harming you.

 

Ballet:  (Saturday - 45 or 60 min.) Class time changes

Ballet classes will be held in the aerobics studio. Students should dress in comfortable clothes - i.e. shorts, sweatpants, t-shirts. Ballet slippers will be best, but socks are acceptable. Registration for three month sessions begin 2 weeks prior to the session start.

   2 1/2 to 5 years    #1 @ 1:45 - 2:30 pm & #2 @ 2:45 - 3:30 pm

   6 to 9 years           3:45 - 4:45 pm

   10 yrs & up            5:00 - 6:00 pm   (ballet & jazz)

 

Ballroom Dance:  (1 hr & 45 min)

Experience the art of dancing and the mechanics of East Coast Swing, Rumba, Foxtrot & more. NO partner necessary. [L 1-3]

 

Basic Step: (45 min)

Introduction to basic step, terminology and basic step patterns. Learn and get a workout.  [L 1-3]

 

Beyond 50 & Fit: (90 min.)
This weight room class offers time to come in and receive ongoing instructor assistance and support with strength training technique and progression.  Come increase your strength while enjoying this class’s fun, motivating social setting. [L 1-3] 

 

Core Balance(50 min.) 

Get ready to have a ball! Our focus is core strength to build total body strength, balance & flexibility. We will use a variety of fun exercise equipment, such as weights, tubes, yoga straps, blocks, mat and ball.  [All]

Cycling: (60 min.)
Indoor cycling Is the pure, no nonsense, non-stop, non-impacting cardiovascular workout.  The instructor will guide you through a simulated ride on flat roads, pedaling into a head wind, climbing hills, down hills, or chasing the guy breaking away from the pack.  You control the resistance.  ALL fitness levels can participate.  Class requirements: You must be sized to a bike before participating in a class. Bring a towel & a full water bottle to each class.  (SPD pedals available).   [L 1-3]    

F.A.B.(30 min.) 
Fabuluous Abs & Buns! This express workout will focus on abs & Buns to get your body "beach ready." So come in and join this high intensity sculpting fun workout!  [L 2-3]

Functional FUN: (60 min.) 
Come have FUN - become more fit and gain confidence as we improve coordination, strength, and balance. We'll use light weights, elastic resistance, dowels and chair, if needed. NO mats or floor work. [L 1-2]

Hapkido: (90 min. on Tues; 60 min on Thurs)  
This Korean martial arts class teaches self-defense, using kicking, throwing and joint-lock moves.  Instructor Frank Cruz holds a 1st Degree Black Belt.  Open to ages 8-adult. [L 1-3]

Irish Dance:  (Fridays - 45 or 60 min.) Registration opens March 15th, begins 4/2.

Irish Dance classes will be held in the aerobics studio. Students should dress in comfortable clothes - i.e. shorts, sweatpants, t-shirts. Ballet slippers will be best, but socks are acceptable. Registration for three month sessions begin 2 weeks prior to the session start - April 9th for the next session start.

   4 to 6 years           3:30 - 4:15 pm

   7 to 9 years           4:30 - 5:15 pm

Jump-N-Jab:  (45 Min)
Pace yourself or push your limits! Intervals of cardio and muscle conditioning drill to firm, sculpt and strengthen your body. This calorie burning workout has moves to suit all levels. [L 1-3]


Knitting Social:  2-4 pm every Saturday
This is a new Adults Only knitting group that will meet each Saturday in the Activity Center of the Y. For men and women of all skill levels - Share, learn and develop new knitting skills. Bring your own supplies and your current project.
 

Kung Fu (Traditional): (60 min.) 

Learn an authentic martial arts system taught in the traditional manner from a master instructor. Though consistent training and diligent practice, you can become skilled in the basics and progress toward advanced levels, attaining confidence, strength, physical fitness and flexibility[L 2-3]

Lite Y Aerobics
: (60 min.)
The slower to moderately paced, non-impact floor aerobic moves of this class makes it ideal for anybody,  be it the new exerciser, the active older adult or the overweight.

Boot Camp : (60 min.)  !New time on Thursdays, 4:15-5:15 pm!
Focuses on power, agility, strength and speed with a mix of pylometrics, Olympic power lifting, strong man, speed and agility drills. Mondays in aerobics room and Thursdays on the Gym floor.

Pilates (R): (1 hour & 15 min.) 

Pilates is a unique system of stretching and strengthening exercises to tone muscles; improve posture, flexibility and balance; and unite body and mind.  [ALL]

Pilates Fusion: (60 min)  Sunday Class
Invigorating fusion of Pilates, yoga & ballet. The core exercises of Pilates tone & tighten, while yoga & ballet stretch and lengthen muscles to create a long, lean body with the added benefit of relieving muscle tension & stress. Low impact.  [L1-3]

!NEW! PiYo: (45 Min.) 
A mind/body workout, more than just flexibility; it's about burning calories and building muscle! The dynamic blend of movement of Pilates and Yoga increases strength, balance, and agility, while being easy of the mind and the joints. [L1-3]

Plus Circuit(45 Min.)
Exclusively for those 30 lbs or more over their ideal weight. Interval circuit training to get cardio and muscle toning.  [L1-3]

Power Yoga 1:  (60 min)

Focus on the foundations of power yoga, body alignment and physical conditioning. [L 1-2]

 

Power Yoga 2(60 min)

Focus on more advanced positions from Power Yoga 1, body alignment and physical conditioning. [L 2-3]

Run for your Life: (60 min.)
Progress from walking to running by gradually improving your stamina at your own pace. This class is designed to help keep you motivated, whether training for a marathon or just wanting to finish a 5K course. Come join us in this fun, supportive and instructional atmosphere.

Salsa
: (60 min.)
Learn
those sizzling hot dances of the Caribbean, including the meringue, salsa, and the cha-cha in this energizing class. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and clothes. No high-heels please.  [L 1-3]

Shake a Tail Feather: (60 min.)
A power walk-jog-run (you choose) class, designed for individuals looking to gradually build stamina at their own pace and improve cardiovascular fitness. The emphasis is on creating a Shake a Tail Feather network to offer support, motivate, FUN and exercise - all outdoors, weather permitting! [L 1-3]

Step & Sculpt: (60 min.)
A step based workout using easy to follow choreography with the addition of weights to build strength and muscle to sculpt your upper body, all during our high-energy music.

Step Express(60 Min)
Get a cardiovascular workout using a step platform - perfect for toning bums and thighs.

Steppin': (60 min.)

A classic step class that's rich in heart-pumping choreography and muscle conditioning.  [L 1-3]

 

Tai Chi Chuan:  (60 min) 

is an ancient Chinese Martial art known for its superior health benefits and high level of effectiveness in combat. Tai Chi forms are performed in a slow, relaxed manner which calms the mind and releases the physical tensions of our modern stressful lifestyles. [L 1-3]

 

Women's Power Hour:  (60 Min.)
Women Only Weight training Group class designed for those who have been intimidated to enter the weight room. Expect a fun filled, energetic hour of weight training and camaraderie. Gain confidence and knowledge  while increasing strength and improving your overall health and well being.  [L 1-3]

WOWWS - Weeding Out Wimps With Stan: (60 min)
The class begins with an Abdomen work out , push-ups, and stretching, followed by Stan’s timed, fast-paced strength training circuit.

Yoga: (45-90 min.) 
Our Hatha Yoga classes seek to enhance the union of mind and body with breathing techniques and physical poses that aim to integrate concentration, calmness and confidence with respiratory function, muscular endurance, balance and flexibility. The focus and flow of a class will reflect each instructor’s personality, training and preferred school of Hatha Yoga.

Youth Yoga: (45 min.) 
For 6 yrs old to adult. Develops physical fitness, strength, flexibility, endurance and the skills to embrace life with confidence, calmness and clarity. This class uses games and activities to make the practice fun and entertaining while still bringing awareness to the mind-body connection.

ZUMBA(60 min.), also ZUMBA EXPRESS:  (45 min.)         Also a Sunday Class

Join the Latin dance-based fitness revolution and dance your way to a more fit you! Easy to follow instruction, all ages and fitness levels welcome. [L 1-3]

Zumba designed for low impact and good for the active older adult, 15 min of muscle toning.

If your child is between the ages of two and a half and five years of age, you are welcome to have your child join us; then collect your child any time up to three hours later. (more info)
