Activity Descriptions:
Summer Only:
Basic French:
Learn a selection of words and phrases in French through games and
fun learning activities. No experience necessary! ** Program
starts 7/1.
Bead Mania:
Oh the Possibilities! Necklaces, key chains, bracelets, melty beads and anything
else your imagination can come up with.
Cartoons &
Comics: Mix your sense of humor and storytelling with your budding
skills as an illustrator. work with staff to develop characters and learn to
draw.
Creative Writing:
Poetry, short story, fact or fiction are all welcome during this program.
work on your own piece or take turns reading published works.
Fear Factor
Challenge: Welcome to the world of weird &
wild challenges. Obstacle courses, slime tanks, and food challenges are just a
few of the crazy ideas our staff will propose to the kids. Are YOU brave enough
to try it?
Food from Scratch:
How did the food you eat get to be on that package? Explore making food from
the basic ingredients each week as we try out a new recipe. Tortillas,
applesauce, pizza, salsa, bread, ketchup, french fries and more!
Green Walk: Go green
and get exercise along the way! Join us for 45 minutes of stretching our
legs while picking up garbage as a community service to the YMCA and
surrounding parks. * 1 pt
Mad Science:
Discover the mad scientist in you! Come experiment with magnets, mirrors, and
much more, all while you learn why they work.
Talent Show:
Showcase your creative side! Write a story, sing a song, or make a skit. The sky
is the limit!
Wii Karaoke: Sing
your heart out along with your friends and the Wii. All talent levels welcome.
Word Games:
Broaden your vocabulary and bruch up your spelling skills while having fun.
Madlibs, word searches, games and more!
Weekly Activities:
Arts-N-Crafts:
Kids engage in a fun-filled art and craft
activities, encouraging the child's natural creativity.
Books&
Breakfast/Brunch: Bring a book and read with
friends, or participate in group readings and discussions. Also while enjoying a healthy nutritional breakfast provided by the YMCA
staff. A
selection of books is also available to kids and families.
Note: All games and
computers are closed during this program.
Computer Lab:
Computers are available for kids during designated
hours for homework, games and educational research. Computers are also available
to adults when the lab is closed to kids - see schedule. Ages 6 & up.
Culinary Kids:
Learn FUNdamental culinary skills: chop, slice,
grate and whisk your way to success in the kitchen. Experiment with recipes and
new ingredients each week.
Dance Mix/DDR:
A fun way to exercise! Kids face off against each other anon the dance mat.
Follow all the clued dance moves to win the challenge and take on a new
opponent. 1 pt
Fit Kids:
This is a fun and exciting way to exercise! Kids engage in a 45-minute class with
a wide variety of structured games and exercise workouts. Age 6 & up.

Four Square:
An hour of fun with staff played on a four-square
court and a rubber playground ball. Opponents battle it out top rise to the
highest ranking square. It's a whole lot of fun! Ages 6 & up. 1 pt
Fun with Origami:
An introduction to the Japanese art form of paper folding. Patterns and
instructions to create charming origami decorations.
Knit-N-Stitch:
Boys & girls participate in step-by-step knitting
activity with staff. Other activities include sewing, weaving, braiding and twisting
to make projects and be creative. All supplies are provided.
Study Time:
A quiet time set aside for kids to complete homework
assignments or study for tests with the help of YMCA staff. Game area will be closed during study time.
Kids are encouraged to study or read during the quiet hour. Computers are also
available for research and educational purposes only.
Wii Time:
Youth will have a great time playing with the Nintendo Wii system,
but make no mistake - there is no sitting down during this program! All
activities have a fitness focus. This is an innovative way to get kids
moving! 1pt
Wii Rock Band:
Its you time to SHINE. Have a blast being a rock star, take turns playing
guitar, drums or sing your way to the top.

Youth Yoga: Yoga helps youth develop physical
fitness and embrace life with confidence, calm and clarity. The class uses games
and activities to make the practice fun and entertaining while still bringing
awareness to the mind-body connection. 1pt

Butokukan Karate (Ages: 7 through adult)
Butokukan Karate comes from some of the fluid movements of the
(conventional) Chinese styles, softening the traditional hard
style from Okinawa. With stretching and warm-up exercises,
you will learn self-defense as well as Kata (form). Participants
will also focus on the Karate emphasis of breath control,
correct posture and balance. Class meets 6 until 7:30 p.m., on Monday and Wednesday
Cheerleading
(Ages 7 to 13) ON SUMMER HIATUS
Class meets on Wednesday, with Beginners at
4:00 to 4:45 p.m., and
Advanced from 4:45 until 5:00 p.m. Participants in the class
will benefit from team spirit, hard work, accomplishments,
building self esteem building, physical conditioning and loads
of fun. If your child can get loud and likes to dance this class
is perfect. Learn basic tumbling, stunts and cheers. There will
also be basic dance routines taught.
Fit Kids

This circuit training class for ages 6-12 is an exciting way to
exercise! Fit Kids is a 45-minute fitness class with a wide
variety of structured games and exercise workouts and is held
from 4:30-5:15 p.m. in the gym on
Monday through Thursday. Join us for circuit
training, aerobics, stretching, volleyball, capture the flag,
and kickball. Participate in making up fun, imaginative games!
Goju-Ryu Karate
Class (Ages 6 through Adult)
In this class, participants will learn a wide variety of
traditional Japanese exercises of karate and physical fitness.
Karate emphasizes balance, breath control, correct posture, plus
visual and mental concentration. With stretching and warm-up
exercises, participants will learn Kata (form) postures, Kata
Bunkae (which describes the actual application of the technique
practiced in the Kata), Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring)
and Jiyu-Kumite (free sparing). For more information, please

Thursday; Beginners 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Novice 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Intermediate 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
